In my previous post, which was in Nov 2015 (WOW! A long time ago), I shared about procrastination and how I decided to TAKE ACTION to set up this blog. Indeed, I took action, set up this blog and went into procrastination mode again.
So much for taking action
But hey, at least I DID set up this blog, which is a first step forward. Now, in 2018, I will take the second step, with more steps to come!
So what did I do after that?
For the most part of 2016 and 2017, I focused myself to go for regular jogs. I set a target to jog at least 2 times a week and if I managed to jog 4 times a week, that would be a bonus! It was very difficult when I first started out. The one thing that kept creeping up was….. PROCRASTINATION!!
In the mornings or afternoons that I planned to go for a jog, the feeling of procrastination was always there. It kept telling me to put off the jogging till another day. Sometimes, I succumb to it. However, I found a solution to it. While it did not always work, it worked almost 80 percent of the time.
Here was what I did and I still continue to practice it today…..
When you first feel procrastination, instead of being bothered by it, embrace it as a third person. Give it time to ripen. Start counting and feel the procrastination….. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13….. After the 13th count, shut down your thinking process, do not think about the procrastination any more but just do the one thing that you have planned to do….. jog….. Be mindful of every single step.
To start with, a very simple goal for 2018 is to:
- continue my regular jogs;
- create more content for this blog; and
- commit to life-long learning
